Meditation By Brian Weiss, MD
here Many of our personal conflicts and tensions can be resolved when meditation allows us to concentrate fully on the present. This is how we develop the ability to focus on what’s important, minimizing extraneous thoughts. The practice of meditation needs persistence and tenacity, as negative thoughts may return repeatedly, often through mere force of habit.” --Excerpt from the book/CD This book provides a transcript for the CD that accompanies it and a few reflections and comments on mediation from the author. The CD is the reason to get the book. In the process of grieving many of us have a hard time going to sleep because there are thoughts that sometimes haunt us and cause us to focus on events and things we would rather not have to focus on. The value of the CD is that you put it on and voila, you are asleep. The simple, but practical method of meditation in this case is simply to focus on the music and gentle words/visualization that are found on the CD. Meditation is basically focusing on something. When we go to the movies we are really meditating on the movie, and if it’s a good one, we simply cannot focus on our problems because we are absorbed by the movie. You can only concentrate on one thing at a time, thus the value of meditation. It takes us away from our problems, albeit for a short time. However, a short time is better than no time. My 12 year old son has been listening to this CD every night for well over six months. Every night! When I asked him what was on the tape he said, “It doesn’t matter, it’s the voice.” He needs this tape to help him fall asleep, and takes comfort that he doesn’t have to do anything, just listen.
Highly recommended for help in going to sleep at
night or when you need to get some peace of mind from your thoughts.
